BOLT FROM THE BLUE
(2014/JAPAN/96min./TOHO)
Director: Gekidan Hitori
Cast: You Oizumi, Ko Shibasaki, Gekidan Hitori

A comedian, Gekidan Hitori directed the first movie based on his own novel. The motif for the Kaminarimon Hall in the story is the Asakusa Engei Hall. An actual Japanese-style bar, Hogeisen, also appears in the drama. The shooting mostly took place in the Asakusa underground shopping district and the Imozaka slope in Yanaka.

Haruo, an unsuccessful 39-year-old magician, was abandoned by his mother and has broken off his relationship with his father. One day, he receives news of his father's death. Suddenly, he finds himself time-traveling to 40 years ago in Asakusa. Haruo is going to see how his parents first met, and the secret of his birth.
